some of the kids in my middle school are planning on going to this school called Duke Ellington and I don't know anything about it but from what I've heard its a pretty good school. However I do have some question to ask

do they have a show choir and if so what is it like?

what is the population of black and whites at the school?

is the school as big as people say it is?

is it excepting for Gay/Lezbo students?

what was your favorite moment at that school. did you ever have your time to shine?

how hard is it to get in?

THANK YOU

Ellington currently serves approximately 500 students in grades 9-12. Most students commute in from outside of Ward 2, where the school is situated. The academic faculty is fully credentialed and includes seven Fulbright Scholars, various Ph.D's, and DCPS's only National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) in Young Adulthood English/Language Arts.

The school is recognized for, among other things, its award-winning Duke Ellington Show Choir. Established in 1986, the Choir performs all types of music including Broadway, Gospel, Spirituals, Opera, Jazz, and R&B. The creator, Samuel L. E. Bonds, studied with Todd Duncan. Students in the Choir are required to continue performing academically, maintaining a minimum grade point average of 3.0. As well as performing as part of an ensemble, they are also allowed to focus on solo work. It performs a holiday show of Amahl and the Night Visitors yearly.

The Show Choir has traveled to Europe, Asia, and throughout the United States and territories. It has performed at the White House for Presidents Barack Obama Bill Clinton and George W. Bush and in both Mayor Adrian Fenty and President Barack Obama's inauguration. The Show Choir has shared the stage with Earth Wind and Fire Clay Aiken, Patti LaBelle, Jasmine Guy, Patti Austin, Beyoncé Knowles, Boyz II Men, and Denyce Graves. The Choir has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and sang The Star Spangled Banner for the opening of the Washington Nationals first baseball game.

Over 95% of Ellington graduates are accepted into universities and conservatories each year. Ellington alum have studied at Washington Adventist University, Howard University, Yale University, New York University, Harvard University, Manhattan School of Music, The Juilliard School, Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute, Berklee College of Music, The Oberlin Conservatory and among other institutions.

In order to be admitted into Ellington, students must complete an admissions application, audition before a panel, provide academic and attendance records, two letters of recommendations and complete an interview.

It's a great school! I just got accepted into the school for theatre :). Yes, they have a show choir and they are REALLY talented! They can sing, dance, and act a little and they travel all over the world. I heard they even won awards and may have performed at the White House. The enrollment number is around 500 students. The school has mainly African Americans, but there is a good number of other races/ ethnicities as well such as Caucasians. Yes it's really big! There are 3 large levels in the school. They may even make it larger when they do their remodeling. Yes it's accepting to the LGBT community, for there is a large number of them who attend the school. Idk I haven't shined yet at the school lol. My first semester starts this fall. Hmm it really depends on what you audition for- but then again they don't just accept ANYONE. Make sure you show you are passionate about what you do and HAVE FUN. They may accept 3 out of ten people? Yeah good luck, I'm sure you'll do well!

Geez some ppl are so poor for no motive lol anyway i just looked them up online and it appears duke ellington is college of performing arts in washington,DC even as oxon hill specializes in science & tech programs-and is in MD. You must go to their website and spot what precise packages they've there--like lessons, clubs, and so forth. And also you must come to a decision established on the fundamental you wish to have to pursue in view that that is the important change, (as good as the region.) i would say duke ellington college is best in particular if you're in the song field because they vary from commonplace high university-they're more noted-and support you pursue your tune profession. Just right good fortune!
