I'm 15, home-schooled and I've been reading up about school systems and stuff, why is it that it goes straight from D-minus to F? O_O

Also, why is it that some people get a report card every 4 weeks but other people get it every 9? I thought I'd read somewhere that people got a weekly report card?

E used to stand for excellent, so to avoid confusion, it was dropped from usage a long time ago.

The frequency of report cards varies from district to district. Weekly or Monthly are rare choices. It is common to break up the school year into quarters (or sometimes thirds) and to issue report cards at that time.

edit: according to the wikipedia article in the link, "R" stands for remedial action necessary. This is the Canadian equivalent of an "F".

I guess every state's Report Card can vary. When I went to school in NY, when I was younger they gave us "E's" instead of "F's". When I moved to FL and someone got an F, I was like woah I didn't think anything was after E! So they told me that there is no grade E here, there's only A, B, C, D and F. Also some report cards don't use that scale to grade. Some use E= Excellent, NI= Need Improvement, A= Average, P= Poor, G= Good, etc. I guess it's just all about which method works best for a particular school. I must say though that when we got Report Cards that used, E, NI, A, etc .. that they were usually progess reports in the middle of the report card cycle to update our parents, and to let us know where we stood in the class, so we could improve for the Report Cards.

Well i think a D is classed as a near miss (like almost a C) like 44-49% and lower than that is a F but it depends on the different schools and countries but the qualfications are final like here (scotland) for highers you get A,B,C,D (near miss) and then nothing - they dont put an F they just leave it blank (i believe)

I hope this made sense lol

It relies upon on the college district. In my college district we had an identical grading device to what your daughter has from kindergarten with the aid of 5th grade. In 6th grade, all of us started receiving letter grades.

Because your teacher could lose their job for supplying you with E's
