Hello all. ^^ Recently I had a schedule change from ceramics to computer programming, since my parents didn't want me to learn ceramics. They claimed it was, "Too much labor, not enough thinking," and that I could learn it easily from a book--I didn't need a class. They said computer programming would be better for my future, and more useful. Do you all agree? I heard computer programming is very boring, and that ceramics was a lot more enjoyable. Was it the wrong decision to switch? I know it's too late, but I just want to know everyone's opinions.

And just a bit about me, I enjoy both art and technical things, so I could go either way. It's just what everyone else says that makes me have less and less confidence on what elective I'm taking. I make key chains and phone charms as a hobby out of clay, so that's the ceramics half of me thinking. But I also enjoy making websites, editing CSS and HTML, so I was wondering, if I enjoy those two...will I enjoy computer programming too?

Computing is certainly a well paid career after studying and gaining experience in any field, a borough council nearby was offering £65,448-£76,683 pa. This was a senior position and you would require many years of experience to work at that level. Programming, pay will vary depending on which languages you know and also your experience.

I'm sure you will enjoy programming based on the information you have given, however, it is for you to decide. Most Colleges study the language Pascal at A-Level, so perhaps you would like to look at a tutorial for it. http://www.delphibasics.co.uk/

I agree with your parents. You can always take a fun ceramic class in the summer when there is no school. The Ceramic classes sounds like a filler class with no real academic benefit. Even if you plan on going to art school knowledge in programming would be important. As a programmer myself working on web programs, I can tell you from personal experience, that it would be wonderful if the graphic artists knew a little about programming. Sometimes they design things that are impossible or extremely difficult to program. With a little knowledge they may try harder to avoid this problem.

Programming is fun... because for example.. if you programme a game and it works you get a great sense of a achievement. All jobs have boring parts but it is fun XD

Programming requires good time management if you are working for a big company just so you know... But tbh you should choose what you think is best
