Question:
I couldn't complete summer reading for school, please help?

Okay, I'm a very good student (Straight A's if not all A+'s) and I'm freaking out because I didn't get the summer reading for 9th grade english honors finished. We were required to read two books, first: 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' and there was a long list for the second book, I picked 'Thirteen Reasons Why'.
I went to my local library about four days ago to get the books, and they only had a little kids version of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. I did get Thirteen Reasons Why, though-- and finished it yesterday.
Now, the reason I didn't get the reading done, is because I'm going to a new school district (I moved over the summer) and only got my classes picked A LITTLE OVER A WEEK AGO. Therefore, it left me no time, at all.
Do you think if I bring in a note, and explain to the teacher tomorrow (school starts tomorrow..) I will be able to get a little extra time (I literally only need a couple of says after getting the book)? I do not want to start the year off this way, and I'm extremely nervous.
PLEASE give me your input.
Thanks :)
Sorry it's a little long, by the way.

You should be able to show that you are new to the district and was just assigned to the class - Based on that, any reasonable teacher should be willing to work with you provided you work quickly to get this made up.

You've read the kiddie version of the Tom Sawyer, I presume? So at least you know what the plot is?

I would tell the teacher what you told us. I mean, she'll know when you were added to her class list, and if they didn't have the book they didn't have the book. Have you got it in hand - ordered it from Amazon, for instance? I think taking a week and still having no idea where you were going to get the book from would look pretty bad.

You should bring in a note, but she might not be so nice about it. You knew you had a week so you could have gone to barnes and nobles, borders, another library! You dont quit on school! Especially if your a straight A student and in honors class! You worked hard for all those A's, and you should continue to impress your teachers. But since it is tomorrow, bring in the not and explain to her what you wrote down here. Hopefully, she will let you have the rest of the week to read that book! Good luck and have a bunch of fun!!!

because u r a freshman they will probably give you a little slack. you will be ok. just try and get the book, maybe go to a bookstore and read it. most of the time the first day of school doesnt consist of much learning or going over any work anyways. that gives you 2 days to read it.

I'm in Honors English too, and a lot of people transferred in at the last minute also. my teacher gave them more time to do the assignment, so yours should too. just bring in a note signed by your parents.

You want to go to your teacher with a written excuse? You waited until the last minute to find your books! You had all summer. The teacher will laugh in the face of your laziness and grade you accordingly.
