I don't know which language to take in High School: Latin, German, French, or Spanish?

I'm leaning towards Latin because I want to pursue law and plus it helps to enhance your vocabulary and help you out on the SAT's. After all, many of the English words originate from Latin. I have no interest in taking German. French I would have an interest in taking but, I think I would prefer Latin. I have been taking Spanish for 6 years and I still don't know a lot so I'm definitely not going to continue that. Which language should I take?

Think about what career u are interested in and go with our heart...becuase if u take a language that u hate, u will lose interest and ur life will be hell coz u hv to study it for how many ever years!

Latin helped me out a lot with the SATs - taking it makes spelling, figuring out definitions and grammar much easier. If he wants to go into international relations he can always take a spoken language in college, most likely Spanish, Arabic or Russian. For now though, I'd recommend Latin. Personally, I also found it easier than French and Spanish, which I also took for shorter periods of time. I was just absolutely rubbish at speaking a foreign language, and Latin was purely translation, not conversational.

I think you've already chosen :)

If you have already been doing spanish and aren't good at it/don't like it then obviously not that.

If you have no interest in german then not that either (I took german and I don't like it but it's subjective)

You say you would prefer Latin over French, so why ask us? Your answer is there :)

I'm jealous actually, we were only taught Latin for 1 year before our only teacher left and I loved it, really interested in the etymology of our words and stuff

Latin would certainly be different to most people, but then people may argue it is a "dead language", (I disagree btw) but for law it would be useful.

Good luck :)

Latin can help with vocabulary. Even if you are not sure of the word you can usually use latin to figure it out. You are so lucky to have so many choices. Our HS only offers Spanish. They used to have French but that was all for foreign languages. I believe in most careers if you can speak spanish fluently you can advance faster. I have seen that immigrants to the US from most country try to learn English as quickly as possible. Mexican immigrants seem to take longer to learn English. I could be biased and only have limited exposure but I know that my Aunt and Uncle who teach an English as Secondary Language have very few, if any, that are mexican in their classes. I have had german relatives that would converse in German at home constantly but when they were in public it was English only.

I think you should take Latin as French is also a Latin language so if you want to take both, French and Latin, I recommend Latin.

Take Latin if you want to. It'll help you a lot, especially because of its connection to English. I'm taking German, and I love it. But ifyou are interested in Latin, by all means, TAKE it.
