Today, I was told I need to plan and prepare an GCSE English Speaking and Listening presentation. It can be on pretty much anything but they gave you a few ideas. One of them was talk about your favourite sport or hobby. And that got me thinking... What is my favourite sport? What are my hobbies? I do a bit of athletics (sprinting) but only once a week for 1.5 hours when I can be bothered but the thing is I enjoy running more than any other sport/exercise even though it's tiring as hell. Lucky for me I'm not fat at all; I still don't know how though. In my free time I either play COD, league of legends or other video game, or go on the internet (social media or just 'surf'). This would probably be classed as 'sad' I know but I actually enjoy it. I'm actually considering doing my presentation on video games or social media since I'm very familiar with both topics. Should I? Or will I just be mocked? They also said we could do the presentation on a poem (which I don't really want to do) or a topic we know well, like a role model (which I don't have) or something. I've heard one guy is doing it on 5 things that annoy him. Anyone got any ideas on what I should do? The presentation only has to be like 3 minutes long so... Yeh.

To be honest with you I would do something you feel passionate about, like a topic or matter that affects you. I remember when I did my Speaking and Listening for my GCSE in English Language last year, I decided to do Stereotypes in the average Secondary school, as there was a lot to talk about, i was very passionate in what I was saying and believed in what I was saying. Yes, you may have a good understanding and interest in a video game but it's not something that everybody would be able to relate to; people would most likely get very bored if wasn't something that they were interested in. Show emotion in what your saying, be confident and as well as talking, express your views with your hands and facial expressions. You get the most marks for being confident, and well informed, and making an impact. 'E' Grade candidates are the ones who don't actually care or feel strongly about what they are saying. Anybody can talk in front of a class; you want to stand out and make an impact on those around you, that's the aim of the task.

I remember having to do that, although I was told what I had to talk about aha :) I would recommend going with something that you know a lot about or do a lot of as this will make it easier for you to present as you will have the info already stored in your brain :) other options may also be talking about a film (and the special effects in it, how successful it was etc) which is what I had to do, or going with the option that the guy is doing and talking about what annoys or you or what you enjoy. To be honest it's completely up to you and I don't wanna encourage you to do anything that you might not wanna actually do as it could effect how well you do and potentially your grade, so just go with your gut, you could always brainstorm ideas until you find something that you defo wanna talk about :)

Hope everything works out, im sure you'll do great!:)

(also the social media idea sounds awesome, don't worry about if others will mock you, if they do that it just sad because that is such a good idea and so will mean your more likely to get a better grade :) other ideas are you could maybe talk about a celerbrity you know about, an event or a video game like you suggested :)

When I did my GCSE speaking I did my presentation on plastic surgery, and plastic surgery in contemporary UK. It allowed me to explore many different view points, in addition to offer my own opinions which also can make a good presentation. Also, we had to answer questions at the end of the presentation, and because not many people know about it they'll ask questions about the information in the presentation which you should already know!

Good luck!

Chose something that they would not expect such as; dance as an art, photography and how much of a influence it is on the community, the economy, the designs on clothing and how bad people want name brand clothing... some topics such as those will really stun whoever you are presenting to... hope this helps =D
