OK
So I am a high school junior and I am desperately seeking a good book that has more depth than "Twilight" or any of those other useless "teen" books. I'm tired of all the unfulfilling books I'm reading. I want to prepare for college and read books that are satisfying, and have depth and meaning. I am currently going to read The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath and a book by Chuck Palahniuk, but if there are any more suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

Well, kudos to you on trying to broaden your reading horizons! They only book that I have read recently in the teen genre that offered up anything interesting or different as far as perspective goes is "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky. It was truly a great read. Here is a list of some other great books that you may want to check out:

"Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Aspergers" by John Elder Robison

"Running with Scissors" by Augusten Burroughs

Anything by Jodi Picoult, particularly "My Sister's Keeper" or "Nineteen Minutes"

"The Alchemist" by Paolo Coehlo

"Haunted" by Chuck Palahniuk

"Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck

"The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien

Those are just a few books that I have recently enjoyed. Happy Reading!

forget the "teen" section at the library or book store, you won't find anything there. i'm not quite sure what is deep or satisfying to you, but I would suggest browsing the adult section, reading some classics, and looking at some non-fiction books- they aren't exactly deep, but many of them, particularly historical ones, are fascinating. on book that you might enjoy if you like science is "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!" it is sort of an autobiography-Feynman is a genius physicist who breaks all of the conventions of a normal scientist-this book is both interesting and hilarious at the same time.

some good authors-Michael Crichton, Neil Gaiman

-edit-i would stay away from romance, unless it is your thing-they are often just as shallow as any teen book. you could say the same for thrillers, though i find them interesting
